Hot Tubs
Back To Homepage
Wooden hot tubs have a romantic and rustic charm about them which is unrivalled by their plastic counterparts. There is nothing more relaxing than stretching out in your hot tub at night, surrounded by the delightful and natural scents released from the walls of your tub. It is only in moments like this, that you can close your eyes, forget your worries and drift off to that special place.
Introduction.
Wooden versus Acrylic?
Apart from the fact wooden hot tubs are far more aesthetically pleasing and cheaper than plastic tubs, there are also several practical reasons to choose wood over plastic. Firstly, we build the tubs on site, which allows us to get through any small passageways or doors without any problem. Plastic tubs on the other hand cannot be taken apart and so often come into difficulty being transported into back gardens. Also, wooden tubs are deeper and so the bather experiences a far greater level of buoyancy than in a plastic spa. Furthermore, the added depth and use of a bench in wooden tubs means that there is more leg room for the bather. On top of all of this, the smaller surface area of a wooden tub means less heating expense for the customer.
Q&A
Why don’t wooden tubs leak?
Well actually they do…but not for long. This is only the case when they are filled for the first time or have been left to dry out. Once the tub is up and running, the wood is heated up by the water it absorbs from the tub. Wood naturally expands and this is what forms the seal between the joints. It works in the same way as whisky barrels have for hundreds of years
How long will my tub last?
Similar to any other product, it depends on how well the tub is maintained. However, as the tubs are made from quality materials that have a natural resistance to decay, they should last for at least 10 even 20 years. Other minor components may not last the time but the actual tub will.
How should I treat the wood?
There is no need to treat the wood. If only for aesthetic purposes, some people treat the outer walls but many prefer to allow the wood to age naturally. Again this is down to the customers own preference.
Are they difficult to clean?
NO, NO, NO!!! You will not wake up one morning to a tub full of green slim. Fact. This is especially the case with wooden tubs, as recent tests on wooden and plastic chopping boards showed that plastic boards harbour far higher levels of bacteria than the natural wooden boards. Now common sense says that if you leave a hot tub untreated in the sun, wind and rain that it will become unsanitary. This is where the green slim nightmare comes into play. This could only happen if the water was not treated properly, however, we do everything we can to make sure the customer is fully aware of the best ways to treat the water. To clean a hot tub all that needs to be done is to drain the water and rinse it out. If needed, they can be lightly scrubbed with a soft brush and a mild bleach/water solution
Can I use my tub all year round?
Of course you can! Hot tubs are used all over the world from Russia to Australia. They can be used to entertain guests on a cool summers evening with a glass of champagne in hand. Or on a frosty winter night, gazing up at the starts, with steam rising from the tub.
Are there any health benefits?
Yes’ apart from relieving stress and relaxing tired aching muscles, they stimulate circulation and respiration. They also detoxify skin through perspiration resulting in a healthy complexion.
